Merry Christmas everyone! or maybe just have a great day, in case you didn't celebrate christmas or the Solstice or w/e.
Anyways I was suggested to draw some holiday styled elf clad in green and white. So I said, okay, let's give it a try. But I am stubborn like a mule and decided to ty out something more challenging. So I chose a reference with a interesting pose and some foreshortening, at both of which I suck. I do admit that the final result is not that terrible but also not as good as I'd have wanted.
So instead of copy/pasting some lyrics I have decided to transcribe a story. I know not everyone celebrates christmas, but even if you're not christian, you have to admit that some of the universal values preached by christians are indeed hella good. Are they exclusively christian? no, but christians are very vocal about them.
The Gold Wrapping Paper
Once upon a time, there was a man who worked very hard just to keep food on the table for his family. One particular year, a few days before Christmas, he managed to save enough money to buy a roll of beautiful gold wrapping paper, which he held in his closet
Some days later he was unable to find the gold paper where he had placed. Looking around the house he realized that his little five-year-old daughter was playing with it. The infuriated man punished the little girls severely, scolding about how expensive the roll of gold paper was. The poor kid cried at her father's severity.
On Christmas Eve the child had used all of the expensive gold paper to decorate one shoebox she had put under the Christmas tree. Her father could feel his blood boil in rage . He was also concerned about where she had gotten money to buy what was in the shoebox. The next morning the little girl, filled with excitement and joy, brought the gift box to her father and said, "This is for you, Daddy!"
As the grown up man opened the shoebox, he found it was empty and again he exploded in rage. "Don't you know, young lady," he said harshly, " you not only disobeyed me by using the gold paper again but you must also think I am stupid, there is nothing inside this box!"
The little girl looked up at him with sad tears rolling from her eyes and whispered: "Daddy, it's not empty. I blew kisses into it until it was all full."
The father was crushed. He fell on his knees and put his arms around his precious little girl. He begged her to forgive him for his unnecessary anger.
A short time later an accident took the life of the child only. It is told that the father kept this little gold box near his bed during the rest of his life. Whenever he was discouraged or faced difficult problems, he would open the box, take out an imaginary kiss, and remember the love that his beautiful daughter had put in there.
